August 20, 2017
I hope that you’re enjoying a wonderful beginning to your school year and encouraging your students to audition for the 2017 St. Louis Metro 8 All-District Honors Choir!
If you are new to your school and/or the district, please email me a "hello" so I can add your email address to our district group! We have a few new directors each year, and we welcome you :-).
If you know of someone that is new and somehow left off of the email group, please forward this email to both them and me so that I can see their new address.
If you are a returning director, please note that there are a few changes this year involving our website, the registration process, and our performance venue.
First, let me thank you for your patience this year as many of us have stepped in to tackle the coordination as a team until our new coordinator and Metro MMEA Choral VP is voted in next year. Even though, I am the name behind the emails and the one you should contact for questions or concerns, here is your team:
Karey Fitzpatrick - MCDA Rep, email list, judge’s lunch, room monitors
Dana Self - Metro All-State coordinator, audition day registration
Ray Sherrock - audition host, set-up, checking accomp tracks, technology guy
Holly Barber - training room monitors for auditions, set-up, program, general go-to help
Jason Martin - breakfast on audition day, Google Forms, spread sheet for tabulation room
Beth Enloe Fritz - venue, secure conductor & literature, judges, checkbook, judges meeting and training, set up audition and rehearsals, etc
Be sure to follow the procedures provided in this email to register and observe all deadlines.
DIRECTORS ONLY register students online this year here.
You will find registration forms for students, with instructions for their use, included in the links on this page. Please have your students double check the spelling of their names, so that the program is correct. Please remember that even with online registration, you will still need to snail mail or email the enclosed forms with payment.
1251 Turtle Creek Dr.
O’Fallon, MO 63366
The student fee is $10.00 per student.
NEW - DEADLINE for online registration is September 11, with individual cancelation/changes due by the 22nd. Email email@example.com as well as firstname.lastname@example.org. Of course if there are cancelations after that, please let both of us know.
Saturday, October 7th at De Smet Jesuit High School (233 N New Ballas Rd, St. Louis, MO 63141). A certified staff member from each school (not district) must be present for a student to participate in all auditions and rehearsals. Time limit for all solo auditions will be 90 seconds from the beginning of the piece (including the introduction.)
NEW - This year, each judge, solo and sight reading, will be entering the scores into a Google Forms page. This will elevate the chance of errors greatly. (As a transition year, there will also be paper back up copies for every auditioner). For this reason, please keep in mind:
Audition segments have to be expanded to 3 min., so there are less audition slots for each section. Not everyone will be able to be in session 1. Please choose your session thoughtfully. If you have Homecoming, then go with session 1. Otherwise, go with the majority of what your students can do and we will adjust the ones that have marching band competitions or ACT, etc.
Session 1 will start at 8:00 a.m. to help the expansion.
There will be 2 room monitors per room - one to run the music and one to help with the judges.
Sight reading - A reminder that last year’s (and the previous years’) sight reading information is available for anyone to use on the MCDA website (www.moacda.org.)
NEW - the MCDA public website is not yet active, which means high school teachers that are not members of acda have no access to the sight reading examples. Here is a link that still works.
CELLULAR PHONES WILL NOT BE ALLOWED IN THE SIGHT-READING ROOMS. An adult room monitor will hold the student’s phone while they are auditioning and it will be returned to them upon the completion of the audition. ALL students will be asked for their phone. Please inform all students of this policy prior to the auditions to avoid problems.
No chanting - every student must sing.
Results will be sent out to teachers by email, on Sunday, Oct. 8th.
